Senate Bill 1409 - Enhance Education, Housing Assistance for Veterans

August 2007
S.1409: The “21st Century GI Bill of Rights Act of 2007” is aimed at expanding educational, housing, and entrepreneurial opportunities for soldiers, veterans and their families. Among the benefits of the bill are funding for service members of eight college semesters of tuition, fees, books and board. Also, the bill would provide veterans with microloans for “entrepreneurial ventures” of up to $100,000 that have interest rates capped at 2.5% and that don’t require collateral. The bill was introduced in May 2007 in the U.S. Senate by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) and in the U.S. House of Representatives by Representative Patrick Murphy (D-PA).
